The American public education system spends more per student than almost any country on earth. The results do not match the investment. Standardized test scores are stagnant or declining. Literacy rates are falling. And the system fiercely resists every attempt at reform, choice, or competition.
School choice terrifies the education establishment because it puts power in the hands of parents instead of administrators. Charter schools, homeschooling, micro-schools, and voucher programs all represent the same threat: proof that a monopoly on education is not necessary and was never in the best interest of kids.
This song is about the zone we have all been stuck in. A system designed more to protect itself than to educate children. The good news is that parents are waking up. The walls around the school zone are starting to crack.
